Paneer is a healthy protein alternative for all the vegetarians. It is surely all kids Favourite and we can make many dishes with paneer. Paneer butter masala is a yummy side dish for roti, paratha, chapathi and for dosa and idly. Let’s see an easy and simple way to make this delicious dish!

Serves – 3

Butter – 2 tbsp
Oil – 2 tbsp
Onion – 1 large
Tomatoes – 2 small
Ginger – 1 inch
Garlic – 3 cloves
Cashews – 2 tbsp
Bay leaf – 1
Cinnamon – 1inch
Cloves – 3
Cardamom – 2
Star anise – 2
Coriander powder – 1 tsp
Chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds –1/8 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/8 tsp
Paneer – 200gms
Kasoori methi – 1 tbsp
Fresh cream / creamy yogurt – 1 tbsp


In a pan heat the butter and 1 tbsp oil, add in the ginger and garlic. Saute the ginger and garlic until nice aroma comes out and now add in the chopped onion and saute for 3 to 4 mins until they turn slightly brown. 

Now add in the cashews and allow it to cook for a minute, add the tomatoes and saute until they become soft. Allow it to cool and make it into a fine paste in a mixer.

Heat a tbsp of oil in a non stick pan and add in the Bay leaf, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom and the cumin seeds. Saute them for a minute and add in the turmeric powder, chilli powder and coriander powder and mix them well. Now add in the contents form the mixer and give it a good stir.

Pour in some water and allow it to cook for 2 to 3 minutes. 

Now add in the pieces of paneer and mix well, add salt and close the pan with a lid and allow it to cook for another 3 to 4 minutes. If the gravy is too thick add some water and adjust the consistency. 

Finally add crushed kasoori methi, mix well and switch off the flame. Garnish with some fresh cream or creamy yogurt! Delicious paneer butter masala is ready to serve!
