Masala vadai and tea is an awesome evening snack on a rainy day. The homemade fresh masala vadai makes all at home wait for their share and gets over in minutes. 

 

Preparation time – 10 mins

Cooking time – 15 mins

Serves – 4

 
Ingredients
Chana dal – 1 cup
Shallots – 10
Fennel seeds – 1 tsp
Dry red Chilli – 2
Ginger – 1/2 inch
Onion – 1
Coriander leaves –1 handful
Salt
Oil – To deep fry

 
Method

Soak the chana dal for a minimum of 3 hours. Then drain the water and add the shallots, fennel seeds, dry red Chilli and ginger in a mixer and give it a few whip until the vada batter is bit corse.

Transfer the contents from the mixer into a mixing bowl and now add in the finely chopped onion and coriander. Finally add salt to taste and mix well.

Heat oil in a Kadai, once the oil is hot take the vada batter, make a small ball and press them in between the palms. Now drop them into the oil and fry them until they turn into golden brown and the bubbles in the oil stops.

Serve hot with tea or coffee….some like a combo of vadai and payasam also!
