Whole meal bread is the healthiest choice for breakfast as they are a rich source of fiber, low in fat and cholesterol. Let’s have a herb sauce for getting that nutrition required for starting the day. Basil is the king of herbs. The fresh basil leaves compared to the dried contain the essential oil and are better in quality and flavour. Basil leaves are rich in iron and is a good source of minerals like potassium, magnesium, manganese and copper. Tried this combo and it was really awesome with a different yet quick morning breakfast.

Whole meal bread – 8 slices

For the basil pesto sauce
Garlic – 2 cloves 
Basil – 50 grams
Pepper -1/8 tsp
Walnuts – 2 tbsp
Olive oil – 2 tbsp
Parmesan cheese – 2 tbsp


Toast the whole meal bread.

For the sauce
In a mixer take the garlic, cloves and give it a good whip. Now add in the walnuts and grind them finely. Then add the washed and cleaned basil leaves and grind smooth. Add required quantity of salt and pepper. Add a tbsp of olive oil and give a whip for the oil to get well mixed into the sauce. Add the remaining olive oil and whip again to make sure the olive oil is incorporated into the sauce. Finally add the parmesan cheese and grind.

Delicious fresh basil pesto sauce is ready which can be used for pasta and bread toast!
