This time tried sweet potato modak. It did taste close to channa dal filling.

Boiled sweet potatoes contain vitamin C, vitamin D and vitamin B6. High in dietary fiber and low in calories, help us feel full for longer and help us in losing weight. Though they are sweet they do not cause the blood sugar spikes. They are rich in manganese and beta carotene.

Ingredients
Rice flour – 1 cup
Sweet potatoes – 2
Cardamom powder –1/8 tsp
Jaggery – 2 tbsp

 
Method

In a pan dry roast the rice flour in medium flame for a while say 4 to 5 mins until the moisture in the flour is removed. In a saucepan heat some water, add a pinch of salt and allow it to boil. Once the water boils add it to the rice flour and stir well to get a dough consistency.

For the stuffing

Wash the sweet potatoes and peel the skin. Cut them into half and pressure cook them for 4 to 5 whistles. Once it is cooked mash it well. Pound the jaggery and mix it with the sweet potatoe. Now add in the cardamom powder and mix all the ingredients. The stuffing is ready.

Once the dough is ready flatten them in your palms. Now keep the filling and make them like a modak, if we do not have a modak shaper can slightly press it with a fork. After making the required numbers, steam cook the kozhukattai for 10 mins until they are done.
