Pavakka / Bittergourd is low in calories and contains vitamin c, folate, flavonoids other vitamins and minerals. Bittergourd when taken regularly helps fix a lot of health issues in a natural way. As the name suggests bitter gourd tastes bitter which makes many dislike this very healthy vegetable. Bittergourd is a good blood purifier. There are many pre preparation methods used to slightly alter the bitterness before cooking, but in this recipe no such methods are followed. Instead the bittergourd should be tender, green and fresh when we buy them.

Ingredients
Bittergourd
Chilli powder
Salt
Oil
Method

Thinly slice the bittergourd. Heat oil in a pan, add the bittergourd and spread them on the pan. Toss them from time to time for 5 mins until it gets cooked on both the sides. Now add salt and allow it to cook for another 3 mins. Add the Chilli powder and toss well until they are mixed, cook for another 2 to 3 mins and switch off the flame.

Pavakkai poriyal is ready it goes great with plain rice, drumstick sambar, rasam and yogurt rice.
